Eight Mystery Writers You Should Be Reading Now

If you’re anything like me, you have more books than you could ever read (our books need their own house), but you’re always on the lookout for new authors to love.

Eight Mystery Writers You Should Be Reading Now is a collection by eight writers you may not know yet but may come to love. Hank Phillipi Ryan called the book  “an easy way to find that next unputdownable read.” And it’s free here through July 1.

Each author contributed an original short story, an interview, and at least one sample chapter. (Yes, I’m one of them, honored to have been invited to the anthology by Michael Guillebeau, whose writing chops are on a par with anyone out there. Check out his quirky but thought-provoking Josh Whoever.)

The eight of us are all very different. We range from cozy to hard-boiled, with everything in between. As Michael says, we have “a crime-solving horse trainer and a couple of dark hard-boiled detectives, kick-ass funny Florida weird and a dark atmospheric Irish mystery about a matchmaker.”

We call ourselves the Mysterious Eight. I think you’ll find at least one new writer in this collection to love, and possibly eight.

Here’s our lineup:

Lisa Alber–Atmospheric, beautifully written, complex stories set in the Irish countryside. Rosebud Award and Pushcart Prize Nominee.

Kathleen Cosgrove –Laugh-out-loud Florida weirdness.

Michael Guillebeau–Expertly crafted, quirky, and full of heart. Silver Falchion Finalist, and Library Journal Mystery Debut of the Month.

Chris Knopf–Hardboiled in the Hamptons. Ex-boxer Sam Acquillo is reminiscent of mystery icons Travis McGee and Spencer. Nero award winner. You can read more about Chris on Crimereaders.com.

Jessie Bishop Powell—Cozy noir mysteries that are by turns funny and intense. And there are monkeys.

Larissa Reinhart—Small-town Georgia series featuring Cherry Tucker. “A damaged artist with twice the depth, twice the funny of [Stephanie] Plum.” Daphne du Maurier Finalist

Jaden Terrell—C’est moi. Nashville-based PI Jared McKean is a hardboiled hero with a soft-boiled heart. Shamus Award Finalist.

Lisa Wysocky—Lisa writes about a horse trainer with a smart, possibly psychic, horse who helps her solve crimes. Winner of American Horse Publication Awards and the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards.

Check us out. And did I mention it’s free?
